Emma is most certainly a sexy and good-looking woman but yet she often played roles in which she appeared very ugly.
During her 2014 speech upon receiving the best actress award for her work in Saving Mr. Banks at the National Board Of Review Gala, Emma said that in order to become their characters, often actors need to sacrifice their vanity.
The following transformations show how powerful make up can be and change an actor’s face.

Nanny McPhee
Emma has a scary-looking makeup for the tough-minded Nanny McPhee and she says it takes two-hour transformation in the makeup chair and it’s really hot to wear the prosthetics.

Professor Sybill Trelawney
She is a half-blood witch and professor of Divination at Hogwart School. She looks like a vulnerable thin woman, draped in gauzy, spangled shawl, wearing thick glasses, which hugely magnified her eyes to several times their natural size, stressed by Umbridge’s constant harassment.
Emma says it was hard to play wearing those lenses that brought her dizziness.

Cremolina (Barney’s mother)
Emma looks older in the heavy stage make up, wearing tacky and scruffy clothing, plays her role as a domineering mother in The Legend of Barney Thomson, a trivial barber who is casually involved in a murder with hilarious consequences.
Playing this character, Emma can even change her own voice making it hard and awkward.
I have no doubt about these high quality performances but I prefer Emma with her natural look! 🙂
