Thomas Brodie-Sangster

Thomas Brodie-Sangster starred with Emma in Love Actually and Nanny McPhee.

He is a talented young actor who started acting when he was only 10.

Thomas Brodie-Sangster

Thomas was just 12-years old when he appeared in the holiday romantic comedy Love Actually and captured hearts with his role as Sam, a boy who had just lost his beloved mother and had a crush on Joanna, played by Olivia Olson.

From that moment on, his career began to take off, taking him to Game of Thrones, the Maze Runner film saga and finally The Queen’s gambit.

Nanny McPhee, the famous comedy set in England in the late 1800s, introduces us to Emma Thompson as Nanny, the last hope for the widower Mr. Brown (Colin Firth) to give some education to his seven unleashed children.

Released two years after Love Actually, Nanny McPhee shows us Thomas as Simon, the older brother of seven children, with a flawless interpretation. He is one of Mr. Brown’s sons, in a reinterpretation of the great classic Mary Poppins, based on Christianna Brand‘s successful children’s books.

Emma Thompson and…

Celia Imrie!

Celia Imrie

Celia Imrie is a great character actress and author; she is described as “one of the most successful British actresses of recent decades”.

She worked with Emma on The love punch, Nanny McPhee and Bridget Jones’s baby.

Her supporting role on The love punch is really perfect. She is funny and enjoyable.

In Nanny McPhee she plays a so ridiculous character that she makes you laugh from start to finish in her flamboyant wedding dress.

I think she and Emma have a lot of fun working together.

Emma Thompson and…

Colin Firth!

Colin Firth

Colin Firth is a British actor.

Emma and Firth have made three films together (Love actually, Nanny McPhee and Bridget Jones’s baby) but they have never acted the role of a married couple.

They share passion for Italy and they both have a house in Italy.

Following the referendum that brought Britain out of the EU, Firth applied for “dual citizenship (British and Italian)” to have the same passports as his wife and children. His request has been approved on 22 September 2017.

They also share a passion for volunteering and activism: Colin Firth has been a long-standing supporter of Survival International and he is also a supporter of the Refugee Council.

Before-and-after transformations

Emma is most certainly a sexy and good-looking woman but yet she often played roles in which she appeared very ugly.

During her 2014 speech upon receiving the best actress award for her work in Saving Mr. Banks at the National Board Of Review Gala, Emma said that in order to become their characters, often actors need to sacrifice their vanity.

The following transformations show how powerful make up can be and change an actor’s face.

Nanny McPhee

Emma has a scary-looking makeup for the tough-minded Nanny McPhee and she says it takes two-hour transformation in the makeup chair and it’s really hot to wear the prosthetics.

Professor Sybill Trelawney

She is a half-blood witch and professor of Divination at Hogwart School. She looks like a vulnerable thin woman, draped in gauzy, spangled shawl, wearing thick glasses, which hugely magnified her eyes to several times their natural size, stressed by Umbridge’s constant harassment.

Emma says it was hard to play wearing those lenses that brought her dizziness.

Cremolina (Barney’s mother)

Emma looks older in the heavy stage make up, wearing tacky and scruffy clothing, plays her role as a domineering mother in The Legend of Barney Thomson, a trivial barber who is casually involved in a murder with hilarious consequences.

Playing this character, Emma can even change her own voice making it hard and awkward.

I have no doubt about these high quality performances but I prefer Emma with her natural look! 🙂

Emma Thompson

Nanny McPhee

When you need me but do not want me, then I must stay. When you want me but no longer need me, then I have to go.

Nanny McPhee

Nanny McPhee is a governess with magic powers, we could define her a horrible looking Mary Poppins! She always arrives not wanted, but called to manage the situation. Once her task is completed, she has to go, even if she is now wanted.

In both episodes, Nanny McPhee (2005) and Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang (2010), she has to reform naughty children: she uses a magic stick; at first, children can’t stand her, then they love her but… she has to leave because she has completed her mission.

Nanny McPhee

Emma is unrecognizable because of the cinematic makeup and only at the end of the movie , for few seconds, we can see her pretty face again.
